World Cancer Day4
February 2010 Each year on 4 February, the
International Union Against
Cancer (UICC) is joined by the
World Health Organisation (WHO)
to raise awareness of cancer and
to encourage its prevention,
detection and treatment.
Cancer is a leading cause of
death around the world. The UICC
estimates that each year, over
12 million people receive a
cancer diagnosis and 7.6 million
die of the disease.
This February, UICC launches the
campaign “Cancer can be
prevented too”, focusing on how
the risk of developing cancer
can significantly be reduced
through simple measures. For
